The beach is frequently closed during rocket launches for safety, so there’s no chance of being spotted by anyone heading to space. Still, it’s fun to imagine them waving down at us.
First Impressions: Windy, Warm, and Wonderfully Wild
Playalinda Beach sits on the north end of the Canaveral National Seashore — a pristine, undeveloped stretch of coastline with nothing but sand, surf, and sky. It’s famous for its natural beauty and its incredible proximity to the Kennedy Space Center launchpads. You can literally see the historic structures from the beach road.
We arrived on a partly sunny afternoon with temps in the high 80s. The ocean was warm, but wow — the surf was rough and the wind was intense. We’re Gulf Coast people at heart, so we’re used to calmer water and gentler currents. The Atlantic was definitely showing off that day.

The beach itself wasn’t crowded at all, which made the full parking lot even more interesting. Maybe everyone had the same idea: start the week with a little freedom.

Once we settled in, the vibe was exactly what we love about naturist beaches — quiet, respectful, and laid‑back. Sheila braved the waves (with some dramatic attempts at getting in), and we both soaked up the warm sun and the feeling of being completely off the clock.
